TY final run with Michael Fennelly
2nd year Technology Students took part in programming of PIC microcontroller chips.
The students learned how to write and programme the microcontrollers with a computer to do a range of functions. The first was to programme LED lights to come on & off in a set order. The students also wrote a programme to control a model Car Park barrier, where, as a car drove up to the barrier it triggered a sensor and the barrier opened and later closed as the car entered the car park. From there, the students progressed to adding a count sequence to the programme. The programme counted the number of cars that entered and exited. The students set the car park capacity to 5 cars so when a sixth car approached the barrier it didn’t allow the car entry until a car left the car park.
